Energy Consumption and Wood Flooring

A signifficant amount of heating energy could be lost when transfering heat through other objects and especially – wood. The thermal conductivity of wood is very low, compearing with metals. Wood -based materials as loose fill, flexible batts or rigid panels are used for Thermal or Sound Insulation.

Because of these scientific facts, it is not a very good idea to install wood floor and infloor/underfloor heating system while seeking to have energy efficient heating. The thermal conductivity of structural softwood lumber at 12% moisture is about 1500 times lower than thermal conductivity of aluminum.
